Vps and Nameservers
Posted by ASTRAPI, 04-20-2009, 03:03 PM Hello If i create a vps using openvz and use a new ip for that vps e.x: 123.456.789.0 What nameservers i must use to point my domain to that vps? NS1 <--- 123.456.789.0 NS2 <--- ? Thanks
Posted by ITSVPS, 04-20-2009, 10:58 PM My favorites are 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2 because they're extremely easy to remember. However, you should try to run your own if you are so skilled since you are the host and should provide DNS services at least for yourself. If you have no idea what you're doing then try searching BIND HOWTO on google. It works for Linux and Windows, and it is arguably the best one out there.
Posted by gilbert, 04-20-2009, 11:19 PM I honestly am a little confused with this question so I am going to try and answer to what I think your asking. Usually in a UNIX environment like ITVPS mentioned to look up BIND which runs as named. If you assign 2 ips to the BIND/named VPS server you would have enough to run duplicate name servers on the same server even though it looks like one. You create in your domain name register name servers and assign them to that IP like sub domains. Then on the VPS that's running bind you will need in the configuration to let it no also a couple things. One the name servers and IPs of the name server (NS) record. And I always add an (A) record for duplicating this as well like assigning the NAMESERVERSUB A IP.
