Ask your provider to setup reversedns to your domain.

It sounds like you DON'T want RDNS set up, is that correct? Your provider can obscure that for you, however, you will run into mail deliverability issue if you do not have a proper RDNS entry.

It isn't clear what you wish to accomplish. Do you want to hide the hostname / reverse DNS because it points to your VPS provider's company?

yes yes. exatly. when i use ping tools or Hostname / Reverse IP Lookup tools they show my VPS provider's company .

Did you set the hostname in your VPS ? If not please set it and also update the details to the provider as the your VPS hostname has to be set in the main node of the server, which your provider can do. Also you can get your reverse DNS set by them.

You can just change the reverse dns of your main ip to any different name if you want your real one hidden.

nimafire: if you are planning on reselling hosting services, and are asking questions like this, how in heck are you going to provide services to paying customers?

I pretty sure he's referring to the ARIN info when he does a whois on the IP. (He says a reverse lookup show his providers "Company"...I don't think he's referring just to the PTR info) You can't change that. If you are assigned at least a Class C, some co-lo / dedi providers will add you officially to Arin info, but you can hang it up with a VPS. Ain't gonna happen. I also think he's referring to his whois info on a forward lookup of the domain. This can be changed by OP, if you have control of your domain and can login at the registrar, and didn't buy it through a provider that holds it hostage. Last edited by mugo; 04-22-2009 at 02:27 AM.
